How it all started...
My first websites were programmed using straight html coding practices.
I wanted more...
I eventually found an open source project called Mambo. This really changed the way that I started doing things. Mambo put a database behind my websites.
Mambo had a direction split and I decided to move my sites from Mambo to Joomla
I have been happy with Joomla but late in 2007 I decided I wanted to look at another open source product called DNN - DotNetNuke.
Why DNN?
DNN really made sense for me because...
- it uses the same programming language that I use at work.
- it uses the same database that I use at work
The primary reason why I made the switch is...
If I learn something at home that can help me at work then I am being more productive.
As I write this I can NOT say that DNN is a better product. I think that it has its strengths and weaknesses just like Mambo and Joomla.
In January 2009 I decided one of my next projects will be to setup a Linux server. I am currently looking at content management systems.
I am still investing time and money in Dot Net Nuke but I think the time is right to look at linux systems as well.
Experimenting with Google
More to come...
